To provide a mounting device not causing breakage of a combustion chamber window.
The mounting device for fixing the combustion chamber window 1 to an internal combustion engine comprises a seal element 2 encircling the combustion chamber window 1 in its region of at least a predetermined width, the combustion chamber window 1 having a light injecting face 3, a light emitting face 4 and a contact face 5. The contact face 5 is substantially separated from the light injecting face 3 and the light emitting face 4. The seal element 2 is supported on the contact face 5 by the combustion chamber window 1. A first cross section region 6 of the combustion chamber window 1 at the end of the seal element directed to the light injecting face 3 has substantially the same size as a cross section region 7 of the combustion chamber window 1 at the end of the seal element 2 directed to the light emitting face 4.
