To provide a method for continuously treating waste optical recording media, wherein the waste optical recording media consisting essentially of a polycarbonate resin and having a reflection layer and the like are chemically decomposed and the resultant bisphenolic compound is efficiently recovered without inclusion of foreign matter.
The waste is chemically decomposed in the presence of a solvent, an alcohol and a catalyst in a decomposition vessel 1. After the reflection layer and the light of the decomposition residue are separated and removed in a segregation vessel 3, the bisphenolic compound is recovered in a separation vessel 7 and the residual solution is fed to a distillation tower 11 to fractionate and recover the solvent and alcohol which are circulated to the decomposition vessel 1 for reuse.
