To provide a method and device for selecting short-length materials in a small cross-sectional steel finishing section by which a structural cost is reduced and handling operation is simple.

In the selecting method of short-length materials in the small cross-sectional steel finishing section where is provided with a cutting device 1 having a cutting plane 13, a roller table 7 which is driven is connected to this cutting device 1 and this roller table 7 is provided with a length-direction stopper for the roll-stock 6 to be cut which is separable, specially by lifting and adjustable to a desired length, a rolled stock 6 which is brought into contact with the length-direction stopper is fixed and held after the rolled stock is cut into a short length with the cutting device 1 till the material is carryed out of the roller table 7 which is driven after the length-direction stopper is lifted with the short-length material 8. A pressing device 10 is arranged beneath the end part 9 of the shear side of a cut-to-size material 9 and, with this pressing device, the cut-to-size material 9 is pressed and touched to the stopper above the end part 9a of the shear side.
