Abstract:
PURPOSE:To greatly shorten the time of starting of a driven machine through a fluid coupling which is connected between a driver and the driven machine and whose speed is changed by shifting the position of a scoop pipe. CONSTITUTION:For starting, an auxiliary working oil supply pump 12 is first driven by an electric motor 13 so that the working oil in an oil tank 11 is supplied into the working chamber 4 of a variable-speed fluid coupling 3. Another electric motor 1 is then driven to rotate the input shaft 4 of the coupling 3 and drive a main working oil supply pump 10 through an appropriate transmission mechanism to supply the working oil into the working chamber 7. At the same time, a scoop pipe 6 is displaced from the 0% position to the 100% position by an operating mechanism not shown in the drawing, to heighten the speed of charging of the working oil into the chamber 7 to rapidly increase the rotational fequency of the output shaft 5 of the coupling 3 and that of a pump 2 as a driven machine.
