To provide a method for manufacturing an engine block with which a prescribed quantity of a latent heat accumulating material can surely be sealed in the engine block without mixing any impurities, and to provide a core for manufacturing the engine block which is suitably used to the manufacturing method.
A salt core 63 for forming a heat accumulating material holding chamber, is constituted of an acetic sodium anhydride. In the inner part of the salt core 63 for forming the heat accumulating material holding chamber, a hollow part 63a is formed. A supporting core 66 and a supporting core 67 with electrode for supporting the salt core 63 for forming the heat accumulating material holding chamber, are inserted into opening parts 63b and 63c of the hollow part 63a. The latent heat accumulating material composed of sodium acetate trihydrate is held in the formed product, by which only the supporting core 66 is removed from a cylinder head formed product obtained by pouring molten metal into a cavity 57 and cooling and solidifying.
