To provide a method and an apparatus for protecting a data flow in an optical interface in which a break time of the data flow is made short and predictable.
The method and apparatus for protecting the data flow in the optical interface of data communication equipment includes a step (1) of receiving an optical signal for carrying the data flow from a transmitting side device; a step (2) of copying the optical signal to produce at least two copied optical signals, namely, a first copied optical signal and a second copied optical signal and transmitting the first copied optical signal to a protecting device to process the signal; and a step (3) of selecting any one of the second copied optical signal and the optical signal outputted from the protecting device in response to an operating status of the protecting device and transmitting the selected signal to a receiving side device.
