Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalytic converter manufacturing method and a catalytic converter for providing a proper clearance between a catalyst and an outer pipe, for maintaining the catalyst in a stable state and for enhancing productivity.
SOLUTION: The catalytic converter manufacturing method comprises a detection step for detecting a pressing force when the catalyst 11 is pressed into the outer pipe 13, a calculation step for calculating an amount of diameter reduction for bringing a clearance value between the outer pipe 13 and the catalyst 11 in line with a desired target value based on the pressing force detected at the detection step, and a diameter reduction step for reducing a diameter of the outer pipe 13 based on the diameter reduction amount calculated at the calculation step.
