PURPOSE: To provide an improved reformer tube assembly which is used in a steam reformer of convection type reformers operated at high temperatures and pressures.
CONSTITUTION: This reformer tube assembly is used in the reformer reactor comprising a ceramic tube 4, a corrosive resistant liner 8 for the ceramic tube and a centrally disposed metal tube 12. A catalyst for the reaction is placed in the annular part 34 formed between the internal face of the liner 8 and the external face of the tube 12 and the open bottom end of the tube 12 is spaced from the closed bottom of the liner 8 so that the process gas exiting the catalyst-filled annular part 34 is passed along the closed bottom 36 of the liner 8 and then upward through the interior of the tube 12.
