PURPOSE: To improve the efficiency for the immobilization of animal cells on a carrier by preventing the adhesion of animal cells on the inner wall surface of an immobilization vessel.
CONSTITUTION: Animal cells are immobilized by using an animal cell immobilization carrier in a vessel made of an animal cell adhesive material. In the above process, at least a part of the inner surface of the vessel is covered with an animal cell non-adhesive hydrogel layer. Since animal cell does not adhere to the hydrogel, the adhesion ratio of cell to the carrier can be improved by covering the inner surface of the vessel with the hydrogel layer. The improvement of the adhesion ratio is remarkable especially when a cell suspension liquid is poured into the vessel to effect the adhesion of the cell to the carrier and the suspension is moved in the vessel to effect the contact of the non- adhesive cell to the carrier in high efficiency.
