Abstract:
To provide carbon fibers having excellent cost performance, and to provide flame-resistant fibers suitable for obtaining the carbon fibers.
This method for producing the flame-resistant fibers comprises thermally treating polyacrylonitrile fibers in a liquid phase comprising a solvent A having a solubility parameter δ of 10 to 20, an organic nucleophilic reagent B containing at least one nitrogen atom, and an organic nitrogen compound C having an oxidizing action against the polyacrylonitrile fibers.
