To automatically close an opened drain valve during inspection, and to reduce the water loss after extinguishing a fire.
This fire extinguishing sprinkler comprises a pipe 3 on the secondary side in which a sprinkler head 4 is mounted and a manual drain valve 8 connected to the pipe 3 on the secondary side and normally closed. The drain valve 8 has a spring 28 for energizing a valve element 25 normally in the valve closing direction and an operating means 30 fixed to the valve element for moving the valve element 25 in the valve opening direction. The fire extinguishing sprinkler also has a stopper valve 7 on the base end side of the pipe 3 on the secondary side, a fire detecting means 10 for detecting that a fire has broken out, a timer 12A to be started when the fire detecting means 10 detects a fire, and a control means 12 for closing the stopper valve 7 after a prescribed period of time elapses, based on the timer 12A.
