Abstract:
PURPOSE: To highly purify the subject crude compound having insecticidal/ miticidal activity by extracting the compound with an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent followed by active carbon treatment.
CONSTITUTION: Firstly, an alkali metal salt of 4-hydroxyneophyl 3-phenoxybenzyl ether of formula I (R is H or Cl; Y is H or F; M is alkali metal) is made to react with dibromodifluoromethane or bromochlorodifluoromethane to produce a crude 4-halodifluoromethoxyneophyl 3-phenoxybenzyl ether of formula II. Then, this compound is treated with an aqueous mineral acid solution in the presence or absence of an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent followed by treatment with an aqueous alkaline solution. The compound of the formula II is extracted from the resultant liquid with an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent followed by treating the solution containing this compound with active carbon, thus accomplishing the purification of the compound of the formula II. The mineral acid is pref. hydrochloric or sulfuric acid and the aqueous alkaline solution is pref. an aqueous NaOH or KOH solution.
