When a cassette 22 having the same shape as the conventional film cartridge for silver salt photography is prepared and housed in a cartrtidge chamber and a back cover is closed, the CPU 21 of a camera main body discriminates whether or not data communication can be performed with the cassette 22. In the case the data communication can be performed, the camera waits for the half-depressing of a shutter 7, and when the shutter 7 is half-depressed, photoconductive film 23 is electrified by an electrifier 27, then the electrified spot is moved just under the shutter 7. When a shutter button is totally depressed, the shutter 7 is opened/closed to form an electrostatic latent image on the film 23, and the electrostatic latent image is converted into an electrical signal by an electrification sensor 28 and stored in a memory 29. Meanwhile, when the film cartridge for the silver salt photography is housed in the cartridge chamber, the conventional silver salt photographic processing is performed. Thus, the silver salt photography and the electrophotography can be performed without changing the camera.
