To provide a simplified drive system that can control deceleration in deceleration running.
The drive system includes: an engine 10; a first variable valve mechanism 21 for varying the opening/closing timing and the lift amount of an inlet valve 14; a second variable valve mechanism 22 for varying the opening/closing timing and the lift amount of an exhaust valve 15; an acceleration-side transmission route for transmitting power of the engine 10 to driving wheels 114L and 114R during acceleration running or constant speed running; a deceleration-side transmission route for transmitting power of the driving wheels 114L and 114R to the engine 10 by detouring the acceleration-side transmission route during the deceleration running; and an ECU 200. The acceleration-side transmission route includes a transmission 32 and a first one-way clutch 60, the power of the driving wheels is transmitted to the engine 10 via the deceleration-side transmission route during the deceleration running. During braking operation depending on engine brake of the engine 10, the ECU 200 varies the opening/closing timing and/or the lift amount of the inlet valve 14 and/or the exhaust valve 15 to vary the engine brake.
