Abstract:
PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for polishing and to reduce working stages and cost by adopting the constitution in which the end faces of optical fibers inserted into a mouthpiece so as to project therefrom are cut while having a certain angle with the fiber axis so that the smooth end faces are obtd. by one time of cutting. CONSTITUTION:Plural pieces of the plastic optical fibers are so inserted into the mouthpiece that the end faces thereof project from the end face of the mouthpiece. These fibers are fixed by caulking in a manner that the end face end of the mouthpiece is positioned flush with the face of a mouthpiece holder 3. A cutter edge, two pieces of supporting arms and the coupling point 6 of a cylinder shaft and a supporting arm 5d are set in the positions shown in the figure. The supporting arms 5c, 5d move toward arrows B1, B2 when the cylinder is moved in arrow A direction and the optical fibers projecting from the mouthpiece end are extremely easily cut. The cylinder shaft is necessitated merely to be moved in nearly the horizontal direction and the operability is extremely good. Since the cutter edge face is moved parallel from the direction diagonal to the optical fiber axis, the excess parts of the optical fibers are cut by pressing the cutter to the optical fibers and pulling the same.
