PURPOSE: To detect the position of leakage accurately by computing the amount of attenuation of a leakage sound when the leakage sound is transmitted through the fluid in a high-pressure gas piping.
CONSTITUTION: High pressure gas is flowing in the direction of an arrow ARW in a pipe line 1. Sensors 2i and 2(i+1) for measuring the sound pressure in the pipe line 1 are provided between a point A and a point B which are separated by a distance L. It is assumed that leakage occurs between the sensor 2i and the sensor 2(i+1). Then, the leakage sound of the high pressure gas generated in the pipe line 1 is measured on both sides of the position where the leakage occurs with the sensors 2i and 2(i+1). The attenuation due to transmission is considered, and the leakage position is operated.
