Title:
DECELERATION APPARATUS FOR STOPPING RACING VEHICLE WITHIN PREDETERMINED DISTANCE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH02133272
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To stop a racing vehicle within the predetermined distance by operating an energy absorbing means to pulla tether means nearly equal to the length of a race cource when the racing vehicle reaches the finish line.

CONSTITUTION: A tether means 9 such as a steel cable or the like having the slack nearly equal to the length of a race course is engaged with the rear of a racing vehicle for drag race use to be situated in a start line 14, and connected to a braking device 66 protected by a barricade 56 via two pulleys 20 and 50 of an energy absorbing means 18. When the racing vehicle 12 starts, and it reaches a finish line 16, the tether means 9 becomes tensed and thereby the energy absorbing means 18 operates, and thus the vehicle 12 is stopped within the predetermined distance by the braking device 66. Thus, a stop distance is made to be shorter as compared with the conventional method such as parachute unfoldment or the like, and thus a drag race can be done in a narrow land area.
