To provide a cam follower having a roller whereto a cam abuts, capable of enhancing the resistance against seizure of the part where the roller makes slide contact with side walls.

The roller 5 of the cam follower 2 is attached rotatably on a shaft 4 borne by a pair of side walls 3a and 3b of a drum 3, wherein the two end faces 5a and 5b of the roller 5 are subjected to a surface press processing in the unturned condition and thereby a number of stripe-form recesses 5c intersecting in many directions relative to the rotating direction of the roller 5 are formed in transcription onto the end faces 5a and 5b of the roller 5 from the pressing surfaces of dies 7a and 7b for use in the surface press processing. Accordingly when the end faces 5a and 5b of the roller 5 are put in the slide contacting condition with the side walls 3a and 3b, minute regions to be out of contact are dotted in the slide contacting part owing to existence of the stripe-form recesses 5c, and lubricating oil can easily be held in these non-contact regions.
