Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reproduce color data incapable of being reproduced in an output device faithfully to original color data.
SOLUTION: Data expressing saturation C* are not compressed until a threshold Px slightly lower than a boundary capable of reproduction by the output device. For the data for indicating the saturation equal to or higher than the threshold Px, nonlinear compression is executed so as to be reproduced by the output device. Thus, since compression is performed only for the required saturation, images provided with the saturation close to the saturation indicated by original input saturation data are reproduced in the output device.
