Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a catalyst excellent in low temp. activity by producing Raney type noble metal catalyst by developing a noble metal-Al alloy obtained by high temp. melt treating a noble metal selected among groups of Ru, Pd, Rh and Pt and Al with an alkaline aq. solution.
CONSTITUTION: The Raney type noble metal catalyst is produced by developing the noble metal-Al alloy, obtained by high temp. melting treating the noble metal selected among the groups of Ru, Pd, Rh, and Pt and Al, with the alkaline aq. solution and methanol synthesis is executed by the use of the catalyst at temp. of 50-250°C under pressure of 10-100kg/cm2. Furthermore, alkali metals, alkaline earth metals or these oxides or a basic oxide of other metal (e.g. titania, alumina) are added to the catalyst. As a result, since methanol synthesis is executed at lower temp. than the case of using the conventional catalyst, the catalyst is advantageous in the point of equilibrium theory and the deterioration of the catalyst by sintering is reduced because the catalyst is low temp. activity and free from Cu.
