PURPOSE: To appropriately accomplish magnetic recording on a film without an encoder by predicting the feeding speed of a film and controlling the action timing of a magnetic recording means.

CONSTITUTION: When the film is loaded and a back cover is closed, the winding of the film is started, DX code information such as the number of frames, the kind and the sensitivity of the loaded film is read (#5), the position of the frame is detected (#7), the time required for winding one frame is contrasted with the number of frames (#8), and they are stored in a memory (#6 and #9). Furthermore, before and after photographing, a temperature in a camera (#10 and #20) and battery voltage (#11 and #21) are detected and stored. Based on the kind of the film, the winding time, the frame number, the temperature, the battery voltage and a current frame number, the feeding speed is predictively calculated (#22) so as to decide the recording frequency in the magnetic recording. The magnetic recording on the film is performed in appropriate timing without providing the encoder, constitution is simplified and cost is reduced.
