A brake shoe attitude confirmation device 51 includes a first diagonal distortion gauge 55, a second diagonal distortion gauge 57, a thin film member 61, an information transmission means 59, and an arithmetic processing part 53. The information transmission means transmits the output values of the first and second diagonal distortion gauges to the arithmetic processing part, and the thin film member is provided to bridge a field 11 and a brake shoe 7 of a brake device. The first and second diagonal distortion gauges are provided on the thin film member along two imaginary lines on the surface of the thin film member. The two imaginary lines incline with respect to the operating direction of the brake shoe and intersect each other. The arithmetic processing part computes a difference between the output values of the first and second diagonal distortion gauges to confirm the attitude of the brake shoe.
