Abstract:
To achieve a brake device which not only can finely adjust the magnitude of a brake force but also can acquire a large brake force, while suppressing increase in the size of the device.SOLUTION: A brake device 1 is constituted by combining an MR brake mechanism 2 and a drum brake mechanism 3. On the radial inside of a casing 4 constituting the MR brake mechanism 2, a rotary shaft 5 for supporting a rotation side disc 6 on an outer peripheral surface is supported in a rotatable manner, and in a disc storage space 17 in which the rotation side disc 6 is installed, an MR fluid 8 is filled whose apparent viscosity can be adjusted by an external magnetic field. A backing plate 12 constituting the drum brake mechanism 3 is fixed to the casing 4, and a pair of shoes 13 is supported so as to move radially with respect to the backing plate 12. A brake drum 15 which includes a surface 14 to be pressed on an inner peripheral surface is fixed to the rotary shaft 5, and is arranged so as to cover the casing 4 from radially outside.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6
