To provide an elevator safety system using a direction governor brake assembly, which can be operated at a high rope speed.
When an unexpected movement of a cage is generated, an elevator governor brake assembly 100 delays the movement of a governor rope 106. The assembly 100 is provided with a brake 114, which delays the movement of the governor rope and which is arranged in the outer circumference of a pivot arm 108 freely to be turned, and formed of a governor sheave 118, in which the governor rope 106 is passed through. A spring load releasing claw (a rotation stopper) is used so as to firstly position the brake 114 in the vertical direction. When an unexpected movement of the elevator cage is generated, a fly weight 124 on the governor sheave 118 operates the claw 122 so as to release the brake 114 from the first vertical position.
