To provide a batch hydrothermal reactor which can be opened/closed easily, has a high heat efficiency, and prevents the occurrence of a dead water region.
The hydrothermal reactor 10 has a closed inner cylinder 14, a bottomed reactor body 16 with its upper part opened which houses the inner cylinder, and a lid body 18 for closing the upper part opening of the reactor body 16 and is formed as a double cylinder pressure balance type reactor. A holding cartridge 12 which can be put into/out of the inner cylinder to house solids W to be treated is provided. An annular heater 30 is wound spirally onto the outside surface of the inner cylinder. Insulating walls 32 and 34 are formed on the outside of the heater 30 and on the inner wall surface of the reactor body, respectively. A cylindrical partition 36 is formed vertically on the bottom wall of the reactor body and separated from the insulating walls. Pressure balancing air is supplied into the reactor body from a space between the insulating wall 34 and the partition 36 and discharged from the middle of the reactor body. The lid body 18 closes the reactor body by an integrated clamp type rapid opening/closing mechanism.
