PURPOSE:To perform thoroughly a treatment of dust, etc. of steel making by utilizing the sensible heat of molten slag without pollution by lumping the dust, etc. together with a reducing agent, heating the lumps in a calcination furnace and evaporating away volatile metals then charging the lumps into the high- temp. molten slag. CONSTITUTION:A slag ladle 3 contg. molten slag 2 of a high temp. is set right under a vertical type calcination furnace 4. A lumped material 5 of dust and sludge of steel making produced by mixing the same with a reducing agent such as coke powder or the like and lumping the mixture is preliminarily packed in the furnace 4. When such calcining layer 7 is sucked toward an arrow direction by the blower of a dust collecting machine, the hot wind of the slag 2 ascends and ignites the layer 7. The reduction reaction progresses and volatile metals such as Zn, Pd, Cd evaporate. The evaporating metals are captured by the dust collecting machine. The slag 2 is bubbled by a lance 8 during this time and when the reduction calcination is completed, the material 5 is charged into the molten slag by a damper 9 and is thus melted; at the same time, Fe, Ni, etc. are coagulated and granulated and such grains are recovered in a poste stage.
