Field of the Invention

The present invention relates to a quilt with healing stones and a resulting weight that improves sleep quality and helps the user fall asleep more quickly while making a positive impact on human health with integrated healing stones.

Prior Art

Traditionally, quilts are particularly used in winter to help us sleep and provide many health impacts and benefits. Quilts are mostly made of cotton filling and cover, while also comprising wool and fiber materials as filling. In the old times, quilts were mostly made out of fleece to keep the user warm and also help improve sleep quality thanks to its weight.

It is highly important for quilts to be heavy. This is called proprioceptive input or deep touch pressure stimulation. This method works by activating certain pressure points on the body to increase serotonin and melatonin levels, while decreasing cortisol levels to relax the nervous system. One of the most effective ways of proprioceptive input is through the use of heavy quilts or quilts that we have used more often in the past, that we have seen in the houses of family elders, also known as the grandma’s quilt.

In the past, people and medical circles used weighted quilts to reduce stress and anxiety. At times, it has also been tried on autism, MS and post-traumatic stress disorder patients. According to therapist Amber Martin, deep touch pressure stimulation isn’t useful in just therapy sessions, it is a calming method for pretty much everyone and anyone.

This method is known as “proprioceptive input” which can also be explained as a massage technique on significant pressure points across the body. Its origins can be traced back to the healing practices of the Far East, and the method helps induce the release of serotonin and melatonin and decrease cortisol levels during sleep. These hormones relax the body and help induce a healthy sleep and a fresh body-mind combination when waking up. Our patent search on quilts at Turkish Patent Office records resulted in the utility model no. TR2016/04902, titled “Multifunctional quilt”. The abstract of said application mentions that the invention relates to an embodiment of quilt used by everyone in their daily sleep routine, wherein said quilt comprises three combinable parts (1 , 2, 3), is easy to wash, can be made bigger when desired (Figure 3), provides a separate temperature for men and women, can be used as a thin or a thicker quilt, and can be used as a sleeping bag.

Another search result is the application no. TR2020/00618. The abstract of said application mentions that the invention relates to a pillow and quilt that helps in falling asleep, assists in easing and relaxing with its aromatherapeutic lavender content, wherein natural lavender collected and dried before blooming is placed inside the pillow and quilt.

Summary of the Invention

The object of the invention is to provide an embodiment of quilt that employs different techniques from the existing quilts in the prior art to bring additional benefits to the technical field.

Another object of the invention is to place weight into the quilt to improve sleep quality and ensure uninterrupted sleep and/or reinforce the quilt with healing stones to make a positive impact on human health.

Another object of the invention is to place or stitch small-sized stones with high therapeutic value between two fibers with lining and cloth over the fibers in spots known as cells or pockets formed on the quilt.

Yet another object of the invention is to benefit from the magnetic and health-improving property of healing stones by placing the healing stones inside the quilt depending on their properties or stitching them on the quilt to help enable contact with the body.

Detailed Description of the Invention

Figure 1 shows a representative view of a quilt (100) comprising at least one exterior cloth layer (101 ), and a lining layer (102) and a fiber layer (103) positioned between said exterior cloth layers (101 ).

The quilt (100) comprises cotton, wool and/or fiber layers (103), improves sleep quality and makes a positive impact on health thanks to natural stones with high therapeutic effect against external factors, wherein said quilt (100) further comprises healing stones (201 ) between the layers to make a positive impact on human health, pockets (202) where said healing stones (201 ) are placed, and a weight layer (200) to which said pockets (202) are fastened.

Said weight layer (200) comprises pockets (202) on a vertical axis (203) positioned to cover 30% to 60% of the long vertical edge at certain intervals. Moreover, the weight layer (200) also comprises pockets (202) on a horizontal axis (204) positioned to cover 30% to 60% of the short horizontal edge at certain intervals. Said pockets (202) at vertical and horizontal axes comprise a weight layer (200) where natural healing stones are placed at the foot section and different healing stones (201 ) are placed above the waist. Just like each stone on earth has a different effect on humans, each healing stone makes a different impact on human body. Therefore, stones are positioned in different sections of the quilt depending on their properties, reaction and impact areas.

Said pockets (202) are placed in horizontal axis (204) or vertical axis (203) to generate weight. In addition to stitching, it is also possible to integrate said pockets (202) by way of buttons, buttonholes and/or Velcro fasteners. On the other hand, it is possible to obtain the weight layer by employing vacuum or hot pressure on stones spread on the surface during production to lock stones between two layers, without the need to form said stone positioning pockets.
