[Problem] To provide: a water retainability adjusting agent which is capable of easily adjusting the water retainability of artificial hair by a simple process; and a method which is capable of easily adjusting the water retainability of artificial hair. [Solution] A water retainability adjusting agent which contains, as an active ingredient, a modified fibroin; and a method for adjusting the water retainability of artificial hair, said method comprising a step for having a starting material of artificial hair contain a modified fibroin.
