Provided are a water-reducing agent and a preparation method therefor. Preparation raw materials of the water-reducing agent comprise the following components in parts by weight: 500-600 parts of an esterified modified starch solution, 100-200 parts of a polyether monomer, 30-60 parts of an unsaturated acid, 2-4 parts of an initiator, 0.2-0.8 part of a reducing agent, 2-4 parts of a chain transfer agent, and 200-300 parts of deionized water. Preparation raw materials of the esterified modified starch solution comprise the following components: a degradable starch, a dispersing agent, the unsaturated acid, an esterified catalyst, and a polymerization inhibitor. After being esterified and modified, the degradable starch has an unsaturated bond, and the esterified modified starch is polymerized with the polyether monomer and the unsaturated acid, which can improve the working performance of concrete. The raw materials described above adopt environment-friendly starch materials and have the advantages of being green and low carbon.
