Abstract:
The present invention pertains to a paper strength enhancer which imparts paper strength to finished paper in a papermaking step, and provides a paper strength enhancer which is easy to handle and can reduce logistics cost while maintaining a high paper strength effect. In view of ensuring handleability during production or use, achieving a high concentration of conventional paper strength enhancers in the form of an aqueous solution has been difficult. The problem can be solved by adding, as a paper strength enhancer, a water-soluble polymer obtained by subjecting a monomer mixture aqueous solution containing a specific monomer composition to water droplet-in-oil emulsion polymerization in the presence of a surfactant. The paper strength enhancer has improved handleability, high concentration, and high dispersibility and can also be easily dissolved due to excellent solubility, compared to conventional products.
