Abstract:
A purpose of the present invention is to provide a viscosity index improver having an excellent friction reducing effect on a lubricating oil composition to which the viscosity index improver has been added, and a lubricating oil composition containing the same. The present invention relates to a viscosity index improver, etc. containing a (co)polymer (A) including a polyolefin monomer (a) represented by general formula (1) as an essential structural monomer, an ester oil (B1) having a 100°C kinematic viscosity of 1.00-2.50 mm2/s, and an ester oil (B2) having a 100°C kinematic viscosity of 2.51-5.00 mm2/s. [In general formula (1), R1 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; -X1- is a group represented by -O-, -O(AO)m-, or -NH-, in which A is a C2-4 alkylene group, m is an integer of 1-10, and A may be the same or different when m is 2 or higher; R2 is a residue obtained by removing one hydrogen atom from a hydrocarbon polymer including a 1,2-butylene group as a structural unit; and p is a number of 0 or 1.]
