Abstract:
An automatic robotic sewing system including a sewing machine (18); a work surface (12) on which fabric (10) is sewn by the sewing machine (18); a dual-manipulator robot with force/torque sensors (13) and fabric-handling end-effectors (15) for moving the fabric (10) over the work surface (12); a vision module is positioned over the work surface (12) and above the robot manipulators (11). The vision module provides an image of the fabric (10) at least in the area where it is to be sewn; and a controller (17) sequences the sewing machine (18), robot manipulators (11) and vision module to enable seam line (26) determination, seam line (26) tracking and wrinkle removal under visual servo control. As a result, free-form sewing and un-wrinkling of the fabric (10) is achieved.
