Abstract:
The present invention provides a submerged entry nozzle for improving intermediate casting quality, and also provides a steel production method. This bottomed, cylindrical submerged entry nozzle for continuous casting has at least two pairs of discharge holes at sites submerged in molten steel inside a continuous casting mold, said discharge hole pairs being axisymmetric with respect to the axial center of the nozzle. In a molten steel flow passage inside a trunk section of said nozzle, the inner diameter of the lower section thereof is the same as or smaller than the inner diameter of the upper section thereof. With S3 defined as the opening area of the upper-side discharge holes and S4 defined as the opening area of the lower-side discharge holes, the ratio of a cross-sectional area S1 inside the upper trunk section to the total opening area of the discharge holes on one side is in the range of 0.30 to 0.50, the ratio of a cross-sectional area S2 inside the lower trunk section to the total opening area of the discharge holes on one side is in the range of 0.10 to 0.40, and the relationship 0.20≤(S2/S4)≤(S1/S3)≤1.0 is satisfied. The discharge angle of each discharge hole is in the range of +20° to -50° with upward from the horizontal being positive, and the discharge angle of the lower-side discharge holes is downward in the range of 20° to 55° using the discharge angle of the upper-side discharge holes as a reference.
