Abstract:
Provided are a large-diameter steel wire having excellent bending performance, a marine hose comprising the steel wire, and an evaluation method capable of simply and easily ascertaining the bending performance of the steel wire. A single steel wire 6w having an outer diameter of more than or equal to 5 mm is held by a pair of holders 11 that are longitudinally spaced apart by a prescribed interval L, and a tensile test is conducted. The bending performance of the steel wire 6w is evaluated on the basis of a comparison of the value of the reduction R of area of the steel wire 6w that has ruptured with a pre-set reference value Rx. The prescribed interval L is 30 mm, the tensile rate is 50 mm/min, the temperature is room temperature, and the reduction R of area (%) is a value calculated according to ((S0-S1)/S1)×100, where S0 is the cross-sectional area of the steel wire 6w before the tensile test, and S1 is the cross-sectional area of the fractured surface after the tensile test.
