This support mechanism (30) for rotatably supporting both ends in the axial direction of a screw shaft (21) comprises: a bearing unit (41) having a movement-side bearing housing (51) and a pair of angular ball bearings (33B) fitted into the movement-side bearing housing (51); a support platform (43) which is provided more on the center side in the axial direction than the bearing unit (41), and through which the screw shaft (21) penetrates; and a housing position adjustment mechanism (44) provided between the bearing unit (41) and the support platform (43). The housing position adjustment mechanism (44) has a support platform-side member (61) provided to the support platform (43) side, and a bearing housing-side member (62) provided to the bearing housing (51) side and capable of moving in the axial direction relative to the support platform-side member (61), wherein a working fluid is filled in a compressed state into a pressure chamber (66) formed between the support platform-side member (61) and the bearing housing-side member (62). This makes it possible to continuously and stably maintain support rigidity in the axial direction, even if the axial-direction length of the rotating shaft changes due to the effects of heat.
