This robot comprises: a drive unit; a plurality of sensors; a memory; and at least one processor which: transmits a first signal for identifying whether an object exists in sensing areas of the plurality of sensors through a first sensor operating in a signal transmission mode among the plurality of sensors during a first time period; identifies a second sensor for transmitting a second signal among the plurality of sensors during a third time period after a second time period has elapsed; operates the identified second sensor in a signal transmission mode to transmit the second signal; on the basis of whether a second reflected signal corresponding to the second signal is received by the second sensor, identifies a location of the object; and on the basis of the identified location of the object, controls the drive unit such that the robot travels while avoiding the object.
