Abstract:
The present art relates to a recording device, a recording method, a reproduction device, a reproduction method, a recording medium, a coding device, and a decoding device by which high linear density recording or reproduction can be easily achieved. User data is coded into a multi-level edge code, and a multi-level code with values changing in accordance with the multi-level edge code is recorded. The multi-level edge code is generated by means of state-transition in a code generation model which: has a state indicating only the number of consecutive zeros of the consecutive 0 edges of edges indicating the amount of change from the value immediately before the multi-level code having ML values (3≤ML); when outputting zero, transitions to a state indicating the number of consecutive zeros including said zero; and when outputting a value between 1 and ML-1, transitions to a state indicating zero times as the number of consecutive zeros. The present art can be applied, for example, to a recording/reproduction device for performing recording/reproduction.
