Field of the Invention

[0001] The present invention relates to a magnetic drilling machine. More particularly, the present invention relates to a portable magnetic drilling machine.

Background of the Invention

[0002] Generally, in magnetic drilling machines, a handle is used mainly for lifting and carrying the machine from one place to another. In most magnetic drilling machines, the handle is on the side portion of the magnetic drilling machine, which tends to tilt the machine about 45 degrees, making it difficult to lift and carry. Also, a user has to use both his hands to lift or carry the machine from one place to another, which causes difficulty in handling the machine due to the offside placement of the handle on the machine.

[0003] Also, the coolant bottle is placed on the magnetic drilling machine's side portion, making it difficult to lift and carry for the user. There is a chance of spilling the coolant while moving the machine from one place to another. Further, there is a limitation in the size of the coolant bottle, which requires the frequent filling of the coolant in the bottle. [0004] Therefore, there is a need for a portable magnetic drilling machine which can overcome the problems of the existing prior art.

The portable magnetic drilling machine (100) includes a base (10), a pillar (30), a drilling bit assembly (45) and a handle (20). The portable magnetic drilling machine (100) from hereinafter referred to as "The machine (100)”.

[0021] The base (10) of the machine (100) is bolted to the ground to support the weight of the machine (100). The pillar (30) is an elongated member which is extended vertically from the base (10). The drilling bit assembly (45) is slidably arranged on a side portion of the pillar (30). The drilling bit assembly (45) is a cutting tool used to make or enlarge holes in solid metal. Drill bits are used with a manual-operated drill or drill press equipped with a chuck.

[0022] In another embodiment, the base (10) of the machine (100) is an electromagnetic base to hold the machine (100) by magnetic force on a steel plate or a beam. [0023] The handle (20) is configured to a central part (60) of the top portion (50) of the machine (100) for lifting and carrying the machine (100) with minimal wobbling. The top portion (50) of the machine (100) is a flat surface to avoid trembling of the machine (100). In the present embodiment, the top portion (50) is rectangular in shape. But it may be obvious to a person skilled in the art to design the top portion (50) of any geometry (shape and size), which reduces the trembling of the machine (100). Also, a cover (20c) is provided to protect the handle from slipping. Also, the cover (20c) provides a grip while holding the handle (20). It may be obvious to a person skilled in the art to use the cover of any material which provides proper grip in holding the handle (20). Specifically, in the present embodiment, the handle (20) is configured to the central part (60) of the machine (100). The central part (60) of the machine (100) is collinear with the centre of gravity of the portable magnetic drilling machine (100).

[0024] Also, the centre of gravity keeps the machine (100) straight while lifting or moving the machine (100) from one place to another, thereby making the machine (100) easy to lift and carry. But it may be obvious to a person skilled in the art to configure the handle (20) anywhere on the top portion (50) of the machine (100) for easy lifting.

[0025] Further, the sides of the handle (20) are arcuate in shape (as shown in figure 1). It may be obvious to a person skilled in the art to make a handle of any shape and size. The handle (20) and the top portion (50) of the machine (100) are integral. It may be obvious to a person skilled in the art to make the handle (20) of any material such as metal, plastic, rubber and the like. Specifically, in the present embodiment, the handle (20) has a left side (20a) and a right side (20b) (as shown in Figures 1 and 2). The left side (20a) of the handle (20) and right side (20b) of the handle (20) is configured on the central part (60) of the top portion (50) of the machine (100) by using mechanical fasteners such as bolts or screws (as shown in figure 1).
