Abstract:
The present invention provides a portable magnetic drilling machine (100). The portable magnetic drilling machine (100) is having a base (110), a housing (120), a drill bit assembly, and a coolant container. The portable magnetic drilling machine is having the base operable for magnetically coupling the portable magnetic drilling machine with a workpiece. The housing is vertically extended from the base and the drill bit assembly is arranged to a side portion of the housing facing downwards of the housing. The portable magnetic drilling machine is provided with a coolant container. The coolant container is removably attached to one side portion of the portable magnetic drilling machine. The coolant container is attached using coolant container holder (135) by a dovetail joint. The coolant container is having a female dovetail profile and the coolant container holder is having a male dovetail profile for removably placing and attaching the coolant container thereon.

Claims:
We Claim:

1. A portable magnetic drilling machine (100) comprising: a base (110) operable for magnetically coupling the portable drilling machine (100) with a workpiece; a housing (120) vertically extended from the base (110); a drill bit assembly arranged to a side portion of the housing (120) facing downwards the housing (120); characterized in that the portable magnetic drilling machine (100) comprising; a coolant container (130) removably attached to one side of the portable magnetic drilling machine (100); where the coolant container (130) is attached to a coolant container holder (135) by a Dovetail joint wherein the coolant container (130) is having a female dovetail profile and the coolant container holder (135) is having a male dovetail profile for removably placing and attaching the coolant container (130) thereon.

The portable magnetic drilling machine (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the coolant container holder (135) is configured on the one side surface of the portable drilling machine (100), the coolant container holder (135) is made in the shape of the coolant container (130) so that the coolant container (130) securely fit inside the coolant container holder (135).

3. The portable magnetic drilling machine ( 100) as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the coolant container (130) is having an opening for filling coolant.

4. The portable magnetic drilling machine (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the coolant container (130) is slidably removable from the upper direction.

5. The portable magnetic drilling machine (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the coolant container (130) is in a rectangular shape having one side surface half slanted which makes the coolant container (130) slidably removed from the coolant container holder (135).

6. The portable magnetic drilling machine (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the coolant container holder (135) is made in the shape of the coolant container (130) with support from three sides of the coolant container to securely hold the coolant container (130) thereon.

7. The portable magnetic drilling machine (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the portable magnetic drilling machine is having a control unit for controlling a spindle to move a drill bit up and down.

Description:
A Portable Magnetic Drilling Machine

Field of the invention

[0001] The present invention relates to a drilling machine. More particularly, the present invention relates to a portable magnetic drilling machine.

Background of the invention

[0002] Generally, using cutting oil and or a coolant is always necessary when drilling to prevent damage to the bit and reduce the wear of the drill press and the motor that powers the unit. Also, the coolant is also known as the cutting fluids which are used for improving the cutting condition and life of the tool. It is also referred to as a Coolant or lubricant because it is used to reduce the heat generated during the metal working operation or in other words to cool the cutting tools. It mostly comes in liquid form but can be in gaseous form too.

[0003] Presently, the portable magnetic drilling machines are not provided with an arrangement for holding the coolant container/bottle safely on the body of the portable magnetic drilling machine. Generally, while using the portable magnetic drilling machine, a user has to use a separate coolant container to meet the requirement. In that case, the user has to carry a coolant container along with the portable magnetic drilling machine. This creates complications when the user is using the portable magnetic drilling machine and has to carry a coolant container all the time.

[0004] Therefore, there is a need for a coolant arrangement for a portable magnetic drilling machine, which can overcome one or all drawbacks of the existing portable magnetic drilling machine.

Objects of the invention

[0005] An object of the present invention is to provide a portable magnetic drilling machine.

[0006] Another object of the present invention is to provide a portable magnetic drilling machine, which is provided with a coolant container that is easy to attach and detach from the portable magnetic drilling machine.

[0007] Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a portable drilling machine, which reduces the effort of a user handling the portable magnetic drilling machine.

[0008] Further object of the present invention is to provide a portable magnetic drilling machine, which is simple in construction. [0009] Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a portable magnetic drilling machine, in which a coolant container is slidably placed on a holder which is provided on one side surface of the portable magnetic drilling machine.

[0010] Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a portable magnetic drilling machine, which is time-efficient and cost-effective.

[0011] Still one more object of the present invention is to provide a portable magnetic drilling machine, which is lightweight and cardless.

[0012] Still one more object of the present invention is to provide a portable magnetic drilling machine, which is help in saving time and energy and resulting in more production.

Summary of the invention

[0017] The present invention provides a portable magnetic drilling machine. The portable magnetic drilling machine hereinafter referred to as the drilling machine. The portable magnetic drilling machine is a faster and more portable alternative to hole-making machines such as the drill press and is more accurate than a hand drill. The portable magnetic drilling machine is used on steel or other magnetic materials such as iron, steel, nickel, cobalt, etc., and the like. The portable magnetic drilling machine gives an accuracy of 0.01 mm to 0.05mm in steel or other magnetic material. The portable magnetic drilling machine is having a base, a housing, a motor, a drill bit assembly, and a coolant container. In the present embodiment, the base is a magnetic base. In another embodiment, the base may be electromagnetic or a permanent magnet and the like. The base is operable for magnetically coupling the portable magnetic drilling machine with a workpiece. [0018] The base is configured with the housing, the housing is vertically extended from the base. The housing acts as a stand for the drilling machine. The housing is mounted with an electric switch for turning on the motor to run the portable magnetic drilling machine. The material used for the body is generally cast iron and the like. The housing is provided with a handle to lift and move the portable magnetic drilling machine from one place to other.

[0019] The coolant container is configured on one side surface of the drilling machine. Specifically, the coolant container is removably attached to one side portion of the housing. The coolant container is slidably removable from the upper direction. The coolant container is attached to the coolant container holder, hereafter referred to as the holder. In the present embodiment, the holder is made in the shape of the coolant container so that the coolant container securely fits inside the holder which supports the coolant container from three sides and securely holds the coolant container thereon. The coolant container needs to pull upwards direction to remove from the holder and the coolant container needs to align with the holder and push down to fit on the holder.

[0020] The holder holds the coolant container by a Dovetail joint. The coolant container is having a female dovetail profile and the holder is having a male dovetail profile for removably placing and attaching the coolant container thereon. Also, the coolant container is having an inlet with a cap for filling the coolant in the coolant container. Electric switches are operated in clockanticlockwise and anti-clockwise directions to turn ON and turn OFF the drilling machine.

[0021] The housing also holds the drill bit assembly and a feed handle. The drill bit assembly is arranged to a side portion of the housing facing downwards of the housing. The drill bit assembly used is made from high-speed steel or are tungsten carbide-tipped material. The drill bit assembly is movably attached thereon for moving down the assembly when required and placing up once the work is done. In the present embodiment, the feed handle is attached to raise and lower a spindle where the drill bit assembly is attached. By the rotation of the feed handle, the spindle moves up and down in the vertical direction in order to give the necessary amount of feed to work.

Detailed description of the invention

[0024] The present invention relates to a portable magnetic drilling machine. The portable magnetic drilling machine is provided with a coolant container which is easy to attach and detach from the drilling machine. The coolant container of the portable magnetic drilling machine is provided on one side surface of the portable magnetic drilling machine. Also, the portable magnetic drilling machine reduces the effort of a user handling the portable magnetic drilling machine. Further, the portable magnetic drilling machine is simple in construction. Due to the very lightweight, the portable magnetic drilling machine is comfortable to carry and perform a task at any place like working on an electric pole, mobile tower, TV tower, bridge, etc

[0026] Referring now to figure 1, a portable magnetic drilling machine 100 in accordance with the present invention is illustrated. The portable magnetic drilling machine (100) hereinafter referred to as the drilling machine (100). The portable magnetic drilling machine (100) is a faster and more portable alternative to hole-making machines such as the drill press and is more accurate than a hand drill. The portable magnetic drilling machine (100) is used on steel or other magnetic materials such as iron, steel, nickel, cobalt, etc., and the like. The portable magnetic drilling machine (100) gives an accuracy of 0.01 mm to 0.05mm in steel or other magnetic material. In the present invention, the portable magnetic drilling machine (100) is fully automatic. In an alternate embodiment, the portable magnetic drilling machine (100) may be a semi-automatic machine.

[0027] The portable magnetic drilling machine 100 is having a base 110, a housing 120, a motor, a drill bit assembly (not shown), and a coolant container 130. In the present embodiment, base 110 is a magnetic base. In another embodiment, the base 110 may be electromagnetic or a permanent magnet and the like. The base 110 is operable for magnetically coupling the portable drilling machine 100 with a workpiece (not shown). Specifically, the base 110 is equipped with a powerful magnet to easily clamp the portable magnetic drilling machine 100 on the workpiece which is to be drilled. The base 110 is configured with the housing 120, the housing 120 is vertically extended from the base 110. The housing 120 acts as a stand for the portable magnetic drilling machine 100. The housing 120 is mounted with an electric switch for turning on the motor to run the portable magnetic drilling machine 100. The material used for the body is generally cast iron and the like. The housing 120 is provided with a handle 200 to lift and move the drilling machine 100 from one place to other. [0028] The coolant container (130) is configured on the one-side surface of the drilling machine (100). Specifically, the coolant container (130) is removably attached to one side portion of the housing (120). The coolant container (130) is slidably removable from the upper direction. In the present embodiment, the coolant container (130) is in a rectangular shape having one side surface half slanted which makes the coolant container (130) slidably removed from a coolant container holder (135).

[0029] The coolant container (130) is attached to the coolant container holder (135), hereinafter referred to as the holder (135). In the present embodiment, the holder (135) is made in the shape of the coolant container (130) so that the coolant container (130) securely fits inside the holder (135) which supports the coolant container (130) from three sides to securely hold the coolant container (130) thereon. The coolant container (130) needs to pull upwards direction to remove from the holder (135) as shown in figure 1 and the coolant container (130) needs to align on the holder (135) and push down to fit on the holder (135), as shown in figure 2.

[0030] The holder (135) holds the coolant container (130) by a Dovetail joint. The dovetail joint is a technique to join two parts together with each other, the dovetail joints are very strong, and can withstand a lot of stress. Generally, one part of the dovetail joint holds a pin (female) and other tails (male), where the pins are adapted to fit in between the tails to create a joint that is impossible to pull apart in at least one direction. In the present invention, the coolant container (130) is having a female dovetail profile, and the holder (135) is having a male dovetail profile for removably placing and attaching the coolant container (130) thereon.

[0031] The coolant container (130) is having an inlet with a cap for filling coolant in the coolant container (130).

[0032] In the present embodiment, the electric switches are operated in clock-anticlockwise and anti-clockwise directions to turn ON and turn OFF the drilling machine (100). In an alternate embodiment, the switches may be a push-pull type or the like. It may be obvious to a person skilled in the art to provide a sensor to detect the presence of an object to turn ON the drilling machine (100).

[0033] The housing (120) also holds the drill bit assembly and a feed handle. The drill bit assembly is arranged to a side portion of the housing (120) facing downwards the housing (120). The drill bit assembly used is made from highspeed steel or are tungsten carbide-tipped material. The drill bit used may be a twist drill bit, core drills, an annular cutter, a milling cutter, other rotary cutters, and the like. Also, the selection of the drill bits is done based on the workpiece material and type of hole required to be done there such that with a cutter wall thickness of approximately 5 mm only a small amount of material around the edge of a hole is removed by using an annular cutter. [0034] The drill bit assembly is movably attached thereon for moving down the assembly when required and placing up once the work is done. In the present embodiment, the feed handle (not shown) is attached to raise and lower a spindle where the drill bit assembly is attached. By the rotation of the feed handle, the spindle moves up and down in the vertical direction in order to give the necessary amount of feed to work. In one embodiment of the present invention, the drilling machine (100) is having a control unit (140) for controlling the drilling machine (100). The control unit controls the spindle to move the drill bit up and down.

[0035] Therefore, the present invention relates to a portable magnetic drilling machine (100). The portable magnetic drilling machine (100) is provided with a coolant container which is easy to attach and detach from the drilling machine. The coolant container of the portable magnetic drilling machine (100) is provided on one side surface of the drilling machine. Also, the portable magnetic drilling machine (100) reduces the effort of a user handling the drilling machine. Further, the portable magnetic drilling machine (100) is simple in construction. Also, the portable magnetic drilling machine (100) is very lightweight and a cardless drilling machine. The portable magnetic drilling machine (100) helps in saving time and energy and resulting in more production.
