Abstract:
This bending loss measuring method for resin-coated optical fibers comprises: a first step for determining a reference winding number such that the wavelength dependence of a bending loss value of an optical fiber in a region at a prescribed transmission wavelength or lower, in a case when the optical fiber is wound on a mandrel having a prescribed diameter, represents an exponential function-shape with respect to the transmission wavelength; a second step for measuring the power of light resulting from causing light having a prescribed transmission wavelength and having prescribed power to enter a first end of the optical fiber, in a state of being wound on the mandrel by the reference winding number, to thereby be emitted from a second end of the optical fiber; a third step for measuring the power of light resulting from causing light having the prescribed transmission wavelength and having the prescribed power to enter the first end of the optical fiber, in a state of being wound by the mandrel by a winding number greater than the reference winding number, to thereby be emitted from a second end of the optical fiber; and a fourth step for obtaining, on the basis of the power of light measured in the second step and the power of light measured in the third step, a bending loss value of the optical fiber at the prescribed transmission wavelength at bending of the optical fiber with the prescribed diameter.
