Abstract:
The present invention relates to a modular multilevel converter and a power system using same. The modular multilevel converter may comprise: a first converter unit having a leg according to a preset phase, wherein the leg has an upper arm and a lower arm, and each of the upper arm and the lower arm has a plurality of submodules connected in series so as to convert direct current power, which is input to an input terminal, into alternating current power having the phase and to output the alternating current power through a first output terminal; and a second converter unit that converts the direct current power, which is input to the input terminal, into alternating current power having a voltage level lower than the voltage level of the alternating current power output from the first converter and outputs the alternating current power through a second output terminal.
