Abstract:
A method for providing navigation alerts to a user including determining a current location of the user, determining a transit area and a transit direction of the user from the current location, retrieving records of transit alerts in the transit area of the user, selecting relevant transit alerts from the records of transit alerts, and alerting the user of the relevant transit alerts. The transit direction defines a direction of travel along a road by the user and is determined from a bearing of the user. Particularly, the transit direction is determined from a comparison of the current location and previously stored location. The method also includes determining a projected transit path of the user from the transit area and the transit direction, wherein the relevant transit alerts are selected from the records of transit alerts by removing transit alerts that are not on the projected transit path.
