Abstract:
A method for producing a cycloolefin copolymer is provided in which monomers comprising a norbornene monomer and ethylene can be copolymerized while inhibiting the formation of impurities such as polyethylene and an excessive rise in molecular weight, thereby efficiently producing the cycloolefin copolymer.　When polymerizing monomers comprising a norbornene monomer and ethylene in the presence of a metallocene catalyst, the metallocene catalyst is used in combination with an alkylmetal compound, the metallocene catalyst having both a ligand including a cyclopentadiene ring and a structure in which a heteroatom that is N, O, S, or P has combined with both a Group IV transition metal of the periodic table and an sp2 carbon atom.
