Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for preparing sapienic acid and an ester thereof, sapienic acid being a major component of sebum and having antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral activity. Sapienic acid has conventionally been produced by biological methods in small amounts, but chemical preparation thereof using olefin metathesis reaction enables cheap and easy production of sapienic acid in large amounts.
