Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing: a method for selectively measuring the number of cells of a bacterium capable of activating a plasmacytoid dendritic cell (e.g., a lactic acid bacterium such as a bacterium of strain JCM5805) at low cost and in a simple manner without the need for a skillful technique in a fermentation composition containing the bacterium capable of activating a plasmacytoid dendritic cell (e.g., a lactic acid bacterium such as a bacterium of strain JCM5805) and a thermophilus bacterium; a fermentation composition suitable for the method; and others. More specifically, in a preferred aspect (i.e., an aspect in which the bacterium capable of activating a plasmacytoid dendritic cell is a bacterium of strain JCM5805), the present invention addresses the problem of providing: a method for selectively measuring the number of cells of a bacterium of strain JCM5805 at low cost and in a simple manner without the need for a skillful technique in a fermentation composition containing the bacterium of strain JCM5805 and a thermophilus bacterium that are similar to each other with respect to morphology such as size or shape; a fermentation composition suitable for the method; and others. The present invention relates to: a method for measuring the number of cells of a component (A) that is a bacterium capable of activating a plasmacytoid dendritic cell (e.g., Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis strain JCM5805) in a fermentation composition containing the component (A) and a component (B) that is a bacterium belonging to Streptococcus salivarius subsp. thermophilus, the method comprising a step (1) of adding a diluent solution to the fermentation composition and a step (2) of incubating a diluted solution produced in the step (1) at 35 to 50°C; and others.
