Abstract:
Provided is a method for improving the health condition of a mammal or a farm animal. The method for improving the health condition of a mammal or a farm animal comprises feeding a licorice root extract to the mammal or the farm animal, in which the licorice root extract contains (A) at least one component selected from the group consisting of glycyrrhizic acid, a glycyrrhizic acid derivative, glycyrrhetinic acid and a glycyrrhetinic acid derivative, (B) a licorice saponin compound other than the component (A), and (C) a licorice flavonoid compound, in which the component (B) comprises at least licorice saponin H2, licorice saponin G2 and macedonoside A, and the component (C) comprises at least liquiritin apioside, isoliquiritin apioside and isoliquiritin. The feeding is performed in such a manner that licorice saponin H2 is fed in an amount of 0.017 g/day/animal or more, licorice saponin G2 is fed in an amount of 0.002 g/day/animal or more, macedonoside A is fed in an amount of 0.002 g/day/animal or more, liquiritin apioside is fed in an amount of 0.001 g/day/animal or more, isoliquiritin apioside is fed in an amount of 0.001 g/day/animal or more and isoliquiritin is fed in an amount of 0.001 g/day/animal or more to the mammal or the farm animal. The health condition of the mammal or the farm animal is improved at least on the basis of at least one item selected from the group consisting of the increase in the ingestion amount of a feed, the increase in a total cholesterol level in blood, the increase in a vitamin A level in blood, the decrease in a GOT level in blood, the increase in a body weight, the prevention of diarrhea, the decrease in days required for the treatment of diarrhea, the prevention of cold, and the decrease in days required for the treatment of cold in the mammal or the farm animal.
