Abstract:
A method and a communication device are disclosed for communication using Internet protocol security (IPSec). According to an embodiment, a first communication device determines, for an IPSec packet to be sent to a second communication device, whether the IPSec packet needs layer 4 (L4) encapsulation. When determining that the IPSec packet needs L4 encapsulation, the first communication device determines whether a first condition that a maximum transmission unit (MTU) of the encapsulated IPSec packet after the L4 encapsulation exceeds a target MTU negotiated between the first and second communication devices is satisfied. When determining that the first condition is satisfied, the first communication device fragments the IPSec packet into fragments so that the MTU of each encapsulated fragment after the L4 encapsulation does not exceed the negotiated target MTU.
