Abstract:
There are proposed a medium placement table and image reader with which it is possible to stably place a bound medium without said medium lifting off therefrom, by maintaining a state in which at least the bound portion of the medium is held against the placement table. The present invention is provided with: a first placement table 21L; a second placement table 21R adjacent in the opening and closing direction to the first placement table 21L; a first support 23L for moveably supporting the first placement table 21L in the opening and closing direction; a second support 23R for moveably supporting the second placement table 21R in the opening and closing direction; and a closing force-operation part 24 for applying a closing force, which is a closing-direction force, to both the first placement table 21L and the second placement table 21R.
