Abstract:
Provided is a liquid crystal composition comprising a polymerizable organic compound and a liquid crystal compound. The liquid crystal compound has a solid phase-nematic phase transition temperature or a smectic-nematic phase transition temperature of 0°C or lower. A polymerizable organic compound having a glass transition temperature of 0°C or lower is contained in an amount of 10-60 mass% based on the total amount of the liquid crystal compound. Also provided is a liquid crystal element comprising a liquid crystal layer, wherein the liquid phase layer has a liquid crystal compound as above.
