This Josephson element has: a first superconducting metal layer comprising a first surface; a second superconducting metal layer comprising a second surface facing the first surface; and an insulating layer provided between the first surface and the second surface, wherein in a plan view seen from a direction orthogonal to the first surface, the contour of the second surface is inside the contour of the first surface.
